Wonderful boutique hotel on the edge of the old town of Lagos Sympathetic architecture and interior design Exemplary staff and service from reception through restaurant to housekeeping. No visible management but not sure this is an issue when everything ran so smoothly. Inventive, delicious and nutritious breakfasts Excellent coffee We had a wonderful lunch on our day or arrival and an equally wonderful dinner on our final night at the hotel. We stayed for ten days in mid November in one of the very cool and comfortable cabanas. It was so good we can’t wait to return Obrigado to all at Casa Mãe Doug & Glen

We had a wonderful several days at Casa Mae. EVERY detail is so thoughtfully curated- from the food to the furnishings. It is so refreshing to have fresh, seasonal, and local food prepared in the open the kitchen to start and finish your day. The rooms have so much character and were a wonderful respite. We also really enjoyed out two hour cooking class and would highly recommend it. Next time we are in Portugal, we will make Casa Mae part of our itinerary! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Great Location close to the main square and activities. The staff were extremely helpful and helped us get to Lisbon when our train was cancelled. Just brilliant customer service. We loved our room overlooking the outdoor lounge area. It was so comfortable and we used all the facilities we could book. The in-house food provided a excellent option if you just wanted to eat in. The wait staff were also top class. A great start to a Portugal vacation

We hoped to like this hotel but it ended up being our worst experience of our trip to Portugal. Fortunately we were able to get out quickly and move to another destination. Our room was infested with dead bugs - seems like it wasn’t actually cleaned. The pool seems nice at first, but the service is very infrequent and there are birds that regularly patrol the pool and poop in the pool area, meaning you have to wait until staff decide to return if you got food, otherwise the birds will go at it. It would have been really nice if there were staff in the area regularly during the day. The food was of poor quality and was overpriced. Some was inedible unless you have a strong stomach. The food in Lagos is great! You don’t need to eat here. The staff seemed to be overworked, with many brand new, and we overheard them talking trash about other guests on multiple occasions. I guess I can understand why employees leave though. We thought this would be a quiet hotel, but there were multiple groups that were partying and being very loud. Nothing wrong with that, but we didn’t know it was that kind of hotel. The spa experience also seems appealing, but the entire spa complex is completely unmanned and messy. We had to convince someone from the front desk to come help us. I guess that goes back to the staffing issues. It’s weird that there are so many good reviews of this place, and it makes me pretty suspicious of what is going on here. There are plenty of other places to stay in Lagos. I hope you find another.

We had a WONDERFUL stay at Casa Mãe back in October/November. We were there for eight nights as part of our honeymoon and never wanted to leave! We were blown away by the incredible attention to detail in the rooms, the beautiful (included!) a la carte breakfasts with the sweetest servers, the lovely atmosphere and landscaping, and just every little thing. We were there in the off-season and so there were fewer staff people available in the spa during our stay and some seasonal shifts in the services (like the room service menu), but any issue/miscommunication that arose was resolved quickly and with care. The hotel is situated in a great part of Lagos very close to the center of town and all the restaurants, shops, and marinas. Make sure to listen to their advice to not drive to the main address of the hotel in your car or else you will be driving through the very narrow streets of Lagos! Drive instead to the parking lot they give you the directions for, walk to the front desk (through the beautiful gardens), and then they will carry your bags to your room for you from your car :) Don't hesitate -- stay here!
